A remake of this: Failure

To contrast with the previous fanart of Steele, here's some fanart of Balto, just after he falls from the cliff with the medicine and before the white wolf appears. It's easily one of my favourite moments of the movie, as that tired, defeated utterance of Rosie's name is the only time where the character doesn't seem robotic or bland to me. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind this movie but I just found Balto extremely boring as a character and that's not good for a protagonist.

I don't get why fans harp on about why it was a shame that Kevin Bacon never returned for the sequels because he's not a good voice actor. At all. No disrespect to the guy because he's not awful at acting but voice work isn't his forte. I actually find myself enjoying the very last quarter of this movie because aside from yelling 'mush!' or saying 'Jenna', Balto is pretty much mute. lmao

With that small gripe out of the way, the colours of this scene were extremely fun to work with. I just love how the painters and animators of this movie took snowstorms and got the most beautiful, pale colours out of them. It's actually very clever how there wasn't really a single scene where everything was pure white. There's always a tinge of blue, yellow or pink mixed somewhere in there and that's what I wanted to recreate here. c:
